Each year, Campus Outreach brings in the new year with a bang! The past several years, we have partnered with CO Greenville, Lynchburg and DC to hold a conference for students exploring Christianity and looking to deepen their walks with God, in our nation's capitol. This year, we will be in Chattanooga, TN with every other Campus Outreach region in the country! We are expecting anywhere from 4000 to 5000 students. Our speakers this year include: John Piper, Matt Chandler, Harry Reeder and JD Greear. This is the first conference in ten years that Campus Outreach has held that will be a national conference! Here's the best news... YOU ARE INVITED! Whether, you are a friend, supporter or alumni of Campus Outreach, you are invited! And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete." I'm always struck by how imminently present the life and ministry of Jesus was to John. Greek Ministry:
I wanted to pass along a report from our campus director at UNCC, Andrew Hathaway. Andrew recently saw a freshman fraternity member of Lambda Chi meet Jesus for the first time. Last week he was given 25 minutes to speak to an entire pledge class in one frat and then he met an officer from Lambda Chi who invited him to come and speak this Sunday to some guys at his house. When Andrew got there he found out the officer had set up for him to speak for an hour to all the freshman in the fraternity. Andrew got to share his testimony and a full explanation of the gospel. During one of the bible studies with these frat guys, one of the guys just opened a bible and started reading in Genesis 1. He had never opened a bible before. The guy looked up from his reading and said to Andrew and the other guys who were waiting for things to start and said, "Did you guys know that it talks about how God created the world in here?!" Coming into this year, we had no significant contacts with any fraternity members and were praying for God to open doors. Thus far, Andrew has made significant contacts in three different fraternities and has been holding Bible Studies with members of each. Praise God!

For God's glory to be made known on the campus of UNCC
For National Conference recruitment. Pray that God would bring many freshmen to raise up a new generation of students who love the Lord!
This weekend is our ministry's "Mobilization Retreat". It is an overnight retreat just for seniors, designed to help equip them to successfully transition from the campus to the real world. There are 12 students from UNCC who are attending. Pray that God would give them a heart to be laborers beyond the campus.
For our family! Pray that Amy & I would be godly parents and that Zachary would come to know Christ very early!

What's Been Going On?

Investing in Athletes: This year, Amy & I both have a unique opportunity to reach athletes at UNC Charlotte. Amy has been leading a Bible Study of three girls who play on the women's soccer team. These are girls who are Christians but are praying to reach their teammates. See the picture below! I have started a ministry on campus just for varsity student athletes called Athletes Connect. It is a chance for them to come, get to know athletes from other teams and grow spiritually. Our first meeting was last week and we had about 12-15 athletes from 4 different teams. I was able to share with them about building your house on the rock from Matthew 7. It was a great start!

Pig Pickin: The first week on campus, we held a Pig Pickin right on campus in front of two dorms that house over 500 people each! We had members from our church come a cook the 150lb pig for over 14 hours on site, it was awesome! Approximately 400-500 people came, got to eat some amazing food and hear about our ministry. It was a huge success!

Fall Retreats: Every fall, we try to offer an opportunity to grow spiritual for students on campus through our fall retreat. This year we are having two retreats, one for the guys and one for the girls. The men's retreat is entitled: Are You Man Enough? The women's retreat is going to be called: She's Gone Country! These retreats offer our students a chance to bring their friends who are't Christians to a context where they will have a lot of fun and be challenged by the gospel. We are hoping for over 300 students between these two retreats, many of them will not know Christ.

"what you talked about tonight really got to me .. opened my eyes to alot and i really took it to heart. you were talkin about going out of your comfort zone and when you dont have control you go to things that you know you can control .. i do that alot..honestly i am scared to go out of my comfort zone from fear of disapproval or consequences of doin so .. i seek approval for everything i do . things i wear . things i talk about. etc etc. things i buy. situations i put myself in. when you were talkin about what things you invest your money for entertainment of seeking satisfaction. i turn to drugs. alcohol. acceptance and yeah for alittle while those things keep you satisfied but after a while...it actually will leave you depressed. very unsatisfied. and i want satisfaction...and i want to always have it . my relationship with jesus? i guess you could say . i dont have one...but i want it...i want that satisfaction..."

Family

This week Zachary just turned seven months old! He is growing, getting big and developing quite an appetite. In the last few weeks, he has begun teething and you can see a tooth popping through his gums. Though he's definitely been a little more fussy, he's getting through it with a lot of drooling and wanting to be picked up. We are very blessed by him and we love him so much!

Prayer Requests:

1. Students to come to faith in Jesus Christ. Many evangelistic Bible studies are going to be starting soon!

2. Fall Retreats - that many unbelievers would come and respond in faith in Jesus Christ.

3. Ministry to athletes through Athletes Connect. Pray that God would open doors to teams that we haven't met anyone in yet.

4HG: SBP Wrap-up

Thank you for your prayer for our Summer Beach Project! It was an amazing summer as 150 college students and 25 staff studied the glory of God (4HG: For His Glory). It is remarkable to think about the impact these students could have on their eleven different campuses throughout North Carolina and DC area. These students are not only established in their walks to study the Bible and pray, but also in their ability to share the gospel with their classmates. We pray that our college campuses are getting 150 "laborers" this fall semester!

School Starts Friday!

Freshmen move in this coming Friday! The past several weeks our staff team has spent the majority of our time planning for the first six weeks of school! It seems almost surreal to be honest. The start of school always comes so fast. Many of you may remember what you felt on move-in day of your freshman year: anxiousness, excitement, uncertainty, freedom! We hope to serve these students by helping them move into their new homes and begin to build relationships with them. One of the ways we hope to meet students is to have a huge Pig Pickin' right in front of where all the freshmen live, it will be awesome!

Glorifying God by Building Laborers on the Campus for the Lost World

Combined, Amy & I have given almost 16 years of our lives to the vision of Campus Outreach as both students & staff. In the past year, we've been faced with the decision of "do we want to give the next five years of our lives to this same vision in this same context?" Is God still calling us to the college campus to fulfill the Great Commission?

I'm sure that when many of you began to support us, you may have thought that you were just trying to help out a young, 22 y/o, recent college graduate who didn't know what they wanted to do, but was passionate about the Lord... we might have thought the same thing about ourselves at the time! Much has changed since the days that Amy was graduating from Wingate and I was graduating from Elon. No longer are we two single, early 20-somethings, fresh out of school; today we are both in our mid-late 20s, married, and have a baby boy! Wouldn’t it make sense to start pursuing a career? What is God calling our family to next? We've been wrestling with those questions ourselves. But time and time again, we still keep coming back to the fact that our passion for the campus still burns. After much prayer and counsel, we want to continue to give our lives away to the campus, to “glorifying God by building laborers for the lost world.” We are willing to take a step of faith and raise our family in this environment for sake of the Great Commission. We are committing to stay with Camus Outreach Charlotte for the next 4-5 years, maybe more... and we are thrilled!

What will we be doing? For the past three years, we have been serving primarily in our financial office, running the administrative aspect of our ministry and partnering on a limited basis with the staff at UNC Charlotte. We will now have the opportunity to serve as an Area Director of UNCC. What this means is that we will be responsible for directing the movement on campus, shepherding the other staff at UNCC and serving on the Executive Leadership team for Campus Outreach Charlotte. We feel humbled by this lofty calling and inadequate for the task at the same time. We truly believe that God is calling us to this role even though it feels so much bigger than we are. We will begin serving in this capacity beginning in August 2011. It’s an exciting time to be a part of the UNCC community, as the campus explodes in growth and looks forward to its new football team coming soon. The need there is great.

What's been true before is even more so now: we need you. We need our support team to rally around us. There are going to be significant challenges to raising a family in this context. Life is just more complicated with a baby (but so much more joyful)! Here are two ways, we would like to ask you to partner with us:

Pray! We will need your prayers now more than ever. Pray for us as we transition. Pray for spiritual protection from the forces of darkness. Pray for wisdom and discernment as we lead and direct the staff and students at UNCC.
Continue to support us. It is so critical that entering this new phase of life and ministry we have a solid, support team behind us. God has provided richly through you over the past several years and we want you to continue to join us in this mission. Will you, in faith, continue to give not to us, but to the Great Commission being fulfilled at UNCC and ultimately, the world? We hope you will, we need you.

This verse comes to mind when the Lord places you on our hearts, Philippians 1:3-5, "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now."

SBP 2011: 4G

3G? 4G? 5G?

I'm sure that many of you are familiar with Best Buy's Super Bowl commercial with Ozzy Ozbourne and Justin Beiber in which they laugh at how fast technology changes from 3G to 4G to 5G to 6G, all in a single commercial. No, this summer we aren't getting into the technology race but we will be spending the summer looking at a different kind of 4G. Our theme for the 2011 Summer Beach Project is For His Glory (4G). We will be teaching over 150 college students from eleven different campuses about how all that we are called to do and how all the God himself does is: for his glory. One of the key passages that we will be studying Isaiah 43:6-7, "I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." In less than one week, we will be packing up our things and moving to Myrtle Beach, SC for a month! It will be an adventure to live in a hotel room across from the beach with a three month old, but we love the Summer Beach Project and are excited to see all that God will do.

Family Update

One of the things that we've noted is that the adjustment from a married couple to a family of three is a big transition! But we have been blessed, Zachary is a happy baby who is already sleeping eight hours most nights. He loves to smile and laugh, kick and stand up. Sometimes he seems frustrated with his little body because he wants to get up and walk and run around. He is such an inquisitive little boy! We have loved being parents.

Prayer Request:

1. For our summer in Myrtle Beach that we would be able to serve the SBP and have a healthy life-work balance
2. For Zachary to continue to grow ans for us as parents.
3. For the 150 students at SBP. Pray that God would raise up laborers!

March Madness

Little Zachary, Jr. just turned five weeks old! We can tell he is growing as he's put on 2 lbs since we brought him home from the hospital. He likes to sleep, eat and poop right now! We are very blessed that he is a happy baby who doesn't fuss or cry excessively. The past couple of weeks we've been able to bring him to church, a cookout for UNCC students and to a wedding in Durham. He is a joy to be around and we love him very much! We would love your prayers for him and for us as parents. Below is a passage of Scripture that we have been praying for Zachary.

Colossians 1:9-10, "And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God."

Summer Leadersip Retreat
This weekend, 75 student leaders will gather in Matthews, NC from three different summer projects with CO-Charlotte. This retreat is focused on preparing the students to be leaders with the SBP, Cross Cultural Project in Johannesburg, South Africa & the Charlotte Summer Ministry in Matthews, NC. Zach will have the opportunity to be one of the four main speakers and will be delivering a message on Spiritual Leadership. Please pray for our retreat!

Meet Zachary James Fulginiti, Jr.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, our first son, Zachary James Fulginiti, Jr. was born at approximately 9:20am. He is a beautiful boy who weighed 7lbs and 6ozs. We are thrilled and as proud as we can be.

However, as many of you know this was a long difficult process. Amy began feeling contractions on Sunday night at 11:30pm before she had gone to bed. Over the next 11 hours she labored at home through the night. We had a previously scheduled doctor's appt at 11:20 that day, which we kept. At that appt, Amy was measuring 3-4cm and was looking great! The only thing we were concerned about was the potential that this could be false labor. We returned home and continued to labor there until about 6pm. Contractions were getting closer together and more intense. When we arrived at the hospital, Amy was measuring 5-6cm and still looked great! A couple of hours later revealed she had progressed to 7-8cm dilated and we thought we might be able to deliver this baby in a couple of hours. Unfortunately, Amy stopped progressing after that. For the next 3 hours she remained at 7-8cm but with contractions growing closer and much much stronger. All along we had planned and prepared to have a natural childbirth. But as midnight passed and the 25th hour of labor, with no signs of progress and no sleep for almost 36 hours, we decided it best to have an epidural to allow Amy to rest and gather strength for the delivery.

The epidural was not bulletproof as it only worked on half of her body for a time leaving the other half is a great deal of pain during the contractions that were taking place. Fortunately, this was resolved but not after at least another hour of painful contractions. As of 5am, Amy was still 7-8cm dilated. Dejected and exhausted the doctor's recommended taking pitocin as it looked like there was no end in sight. Finally, around 8am we began to push. Amy did an amazing job and finally he came out around 9:20am! Amy was unbelievable during the whole process. She made it through 25 hours of labor with no meds and by the time Zachary came she had not slept more than a few minutes at a time for 48 hours. She labored for almost 34 full hours!! What a trooper, my wife is absolutley amazing!! I really do look back at the last two days (in addition to the 9 months prior) and marvel at her faith, endurance, and perseverance. She is my hero.

We are so blessed and felt deeply cared for by our friends and family. Your prayers made a tremendous impact on us. Our boy is beautiful and healthy, more than we could ask for! Thank you!

2.5 Weeks Left

Baby Due: March 7th
In just 19 days, our first child, Zachary James Fulginiti, Jr is due! We are so excited about this and ready to meet him (Amy is particularly ready for him to come)! We are putting the final touches on getting his room together, setting up his crib, putting our hospital bag together, etc. and everything feels like it is approaching really fast. In the past month, we've been taking a birthing class, a new daddy bootcampus class and have attended a parenting conference to help prepare us for labor & delivery and life as Mom and Dad. A week ago, we had an ultrasound and Zachary, Jr was weighing 6 lb & 3 ozs. We feel blessed that so far he looks like a healthy baby!

Winter Blast 2011
This coming weekend is a significant event during the course of our spring calendar. It's our Winter Blast retreat that will be held in Asheville, NC from Feb 18-20. We are prayerfully expecting 250 students from our campuses to attend. Unfortunately, we will be unable to attend due to travel restrictions so close to our due date but we would love your prayers for this events. Here are just two quick prayer requests for Winter Blast:

1. Pray for students to grow in their walks with God.
2. Pray for students to begin to make godly decisions about their summer plans.

100 Hours of Prayer

100 Hours of Prayer!

As many of you may know, Campus Outreach is holding a 100 Hours of Prayer event over the New Years Conference in Washington DC. Our hope is that friends and supporters of our ministry would join us in prayer for this conference. This year, there will be 550 students from SC, NC, VA and DC coming to the conference. Many of the students that will be joining us will be young in their faith and many more will not be Christians at all. These students are in need of our prayers! There has been a great deal of time and effort put into planning for and recruiting to the conference; however I'm reminded of Psalm 127:1, "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." Unless the Lord moves in the hearts and minds of these students, all of our planning and recruiting is in vain.

We would like to ask you to give 30 minutes of your time (or more if you wish) between the hours of 5 AM and 12 AM during the week of Dec 29 - Jan 2 going before the Lord in prayer for this ministry. As we approach this conference we are mindful of the strategic importance of prayer as the foundation of our ministry efforts. We are in need of your prayers! Coming Up...

It's hard to believe that the fall semester is over. Students are beginning to take their final exams and head home for the holiday season. Below is a picture from our UNCC Christmas party. These are our student leaders who have been laboring on campus this year. We had a blast celebrating Christ and all He has done this year.

From Dec. 12-16, Amy & I will be in Washington DC for our Staff Training. We will be joining Campus Outreach DC and Campus Outreach Lynchburg for this time. After spending some time in Charlotte and Charleston for the holidays, we will once again head up to Washington DC on Dec 27 and will be there until Jan 2 for the Al!ve Conference. You can pray for endurance during this busy season of traveling.

In less than three months, we will get to meet our firstborn son, Zachary James Fulginiti, Jr! We are in the midst of preparing to be a new mom and dad. Continue to pray for Zachary Jr's health during this final trimester.

As the holiday season approaches, Amy & I wanted you to know how deeply thankful we are for YOU! Our lives and our ministry is made possible because of your support and your prayers for us. In this semester alone, we've seen dozens of students across North Carolina has been ministered to through retreats, discipleship groups, one on one meetings, evangelistic teaching opportunities and serving our staff administratively because of your faithful giving and prayer. When we take a step back to consider all that God has done, we marvel at His goodness and His faithfulness. One thing is for sure: God is committed to His people and it's is such a privilege to be a part of that. Thank you for you partnership in the gospel!

Mobilization Retreat Recap

Last weekend, 35 seniors from five campuses descended upon Matthews, NC to gather for an overnight retreat for the purpose of thinking intentionally about their lives and walks with God after college. Part of Campus Outreach's vision is to "mobilize" students from the campus to the lost world. Our hope is that the training that students received in college would translate into the workforce. We want to see men and women laboring for the gospel in banks, schools, hospitals, courtrooms, etc. for the rest of their lives, not just the four years in college. During the retreat, the staff and students got to hear from pastors, church leaders and men & women in the business world about how to make much of Jesus Christ after college. One of the timely talks was about bridging the gap between the campus and the church. Would you take a minute to pray for these students that they would seek to labor for Jesus Christ after college? New Year's Conference
Much of this semester has been spent in preparation for our annual New Year's Conference in Washington DC. This year we are expecting 550 students from South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington DC. We are praying that God does it all again in the lives of new students! Would you join us in prayer as we anticipate this critical event in our ministry. We are asking God to bring 70 students from UNCC alone. Please pray during this season of recruitment, that students would be willing to sacrifice a small part of their holiday break in order to pursue Jesus Christ more. You can pray specifically for me, as I am giving a breakout seminar at the conference on world missions. On the Move at UNCC

It's approximately half-way through the fall semester on the campus of UNC-Charlotte and it's been clear that the Lord has been working in the hearts and minds in many students! In the past two months we've seen over a dozen students make professions of faith. It has been extremely encouraging for our staff and student leaders to witness the Lord drawing men and women to Himself.

Here a video testimony of one of the guys: Justin. He was placed on the 9th floor Moore hall for a reason. Listen as he shares how God used David, one of men that I am leading in a committed Bible Study, to continue to work on his heart and to be a witness to him about the Lord.

Personal Note:

We are having a BOY! We found out this past Tuesday that our baby in the womb is a boy. We are thrilled with this blessing from the Lord and are excited to meet our son in early March. Amy is currently feeling much better than she was in the first trimester, but has spells of sickness from time to time. She would love and appreciate your prayers as well. Mobilizing Seniors

The reality of college ministry is that the men and women you are ministering to ultimately leave the campus. Every four years, it's a completely new group of people in your "nets". This is why Campus Outreach takes the ministry of mobilizing seniors from the campus and to the real world very seriously. The past couple of weeks, Amy and I have had the chance to travel to the different campuses within CO Charlotte and have dinner with the seniors who will be graduating in May 2011. The goal of this time is to help the students begin to think about life after college. The vision of Campus Outreach is to "Glorify God by Building Laborers on the Campus for the Lost World", well very soon these graduates will be leaving the campus to enter "the Lord World". We want to see the men and women who have come to know Christ in the past four years at college to walk with God for the rest of their lives. We hope to see men and women laboring for the gospel for a lifetime, not just for the four years in college.

You can pray for a retreat that we will be hosting for the 70 soon-to-be graduates and recent graduates from COC on November 13-14. There, we will give them a time to hear from alumni, church leaders and staff who are walking with God in the real world. We hope to help equip them to be exported from their campuses all across the country and the world! Amy and I are responsible for planning and executing this retreat. Campus Update

The start of the school year has been a wonderful success! We are seeing the Lord move in some awesome ways at UNCC. Tonight, we are hosting an event with Christ Covenant Church's senior pastor Dr. Mike Ross on campus. He will be answering the question of "Is Jesus the Only Way to God?" This weekend, there are men's and women's retreats. We hope these will be great contexts to share the gospel with many non-believers. One of the staff members at UNCC, Andrew Hathaway, started a Bible study with the baseball team and eleven men came. Last night, one of the became a believer, praise God!

Stephen is a church boy, through and through. He grew up going to an awesome church, with an awesome family, and has been a Christian ever since he could remember. However, God does some pretty awesome stuff when we start to really dig deep in the word and to live with a purpose. Stephen has never known how to share his faith and have an impact on others with the gospel of Christ, until now! Ever since Summer Beach Project, Stephen has been dying to get back to school to share the good news with his non-believing friends!

I am thankful for the work that the Lord has done in the life of Aaron. Last October, Aaron was living the party life, and had tried out every sort of substance that existed to try and find joy. He was looking for answers. After becoming a Christian in November, the Holy Spirit has really taken this man's life and has helped him to really grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.

David had an awesome summer - as he says, the Lord CRUSHED him with awesome truth

I wanted to share with you Daniel's testimony. He had an awesome summer and is pumped to be used by God on Charlotte's campus. This guy came on beach project having to raise $1,650 for Beach Project and nearly $4,000 for a missions trip to the Ukraine in August. He exercised tremendous faith and sacrifice in order to grow in His faith and honor the Lord, and God helped him to raise every last dollar of his support. We are so PUMPED for Daniel to continue growing and be a part of our ministry!

I'm so pumped for Christen! She has been walking with God for nearly a year now. She was raised in an awesome Christian family but went through a period of rebellion, only to wind up coming to our New Years Conference last December/January and getting absolutely stoked on the Lord. Since then, this girl has been so hungry spiritually that WE CAN'T STOP HER from coming to every event we put on and every retreat we host!

Carlton - this dude is awesome! He is a student with a lot of potential to become a great Christian leader. Only two years ago, Carlton was not a Christian and he was living the typical college life at Auburn University. Through a series of crazy circumstances, including getting arrested, Carlton came to know the Lord and then brought him to UNCC where God is now working in him to become a leader and a godly man of character in our ministry. This is Caroline. She came into college as a Christian, but did not have an outlet for her faith and did not have the training in Christian disciplines to know how to truly mature in her walk with Christ. We are thankful, God did an awesome work in giving Caroline both a community, and the necessary training to continue to make her into disciple of Christ. Here is her brief testimony

I wanted to share with you one last testimony. This is a really special one. This is not a Charlotte student, but she is a Davidson student and was on our beach project. Halfway through the summer, Rachel realized that she did not have a relationship with the living God. She explains how she came to this conclusion and the work that God did in her heart to make her a new creation. This was a powerful moment when she shared this story in front of 130 students. Very emotional!

Dyin' To Live

For the majority of the the past month, Amy & I have spent our time in Myrtle Beach, SC serving the 2010 Summer Beach Project. Though the conditions are never ideal (moving into a tiny hotel room for a month never is), it is always a joy for us to be at SBP. Currently, 130 students are in the middle of the eight week project. The staff have left and we have entrusted the project to student team leaders! Pray that the SBP student team leaders would lead the project well as the staff are gone. Our theme for the summer has been "Dyin' To Live" which is a two-fold theme that highlights 1) how everyone is dying for life and 2) how the only way to truly experience life is to die to one's selfish/sinful ambitions through the cross of Jesus Christ.

At the Beach Project, I have had the privilege of leading our Stewardship Training packet. It's been a joy to teach students how to be witnesses for Christ through the way that they live their everyday lives. We've been teaching them: time management, how to steward money, the value of the Sabbath and more. Amy & I also taught a seminar on how to have godly relationships with the opposite sex. It's exciting to know that 130 students have been taught the value of having Christ at the center of their relationships. Our last weekend in Myrtle Beach was "Parent's Weekend". We had approximately 200 parents come. It was great for them to get to see all that God has been doing and what a day in the life of the SBP looks like.

This summer we are blessed to have a great group of men from UNCC. They are all having tremendous summers and growing in the walks with God. You can pray for Aaron, David, Daniel, Stephen, John, Milas, Carlton, Andrew & Lacy to not only grow closer to God but to each other in community. Pray that the community built in Myrtle Beach would translate into 9 men being on mission for Jesus Christ in the fall at UNCC.

Looking Ahead:
Amy & I are currently in Matthews, NC and will be for the next four weeks. Please pray for this season to be a restful one for us. The life and schedule at the Beach Project is quite demanding (we aren't used to staying up so late) and we are in need of some physical and spiritual rest. We will return to the Beach Project on July 18th and anticipate seeing all that God will do in 130 students lives while we are away.

Spring is Gone, Summer is Here

Spring Semester is Finished

May 4th was the last day of classes for most students at UNCC. It has been a wonderful year and God has moved mightily on the campus. Throughout the past academic year, the staff at UNCC have seen 20 students make professions of faith in Jesus Christ. It is humbling to see the gospel's transforming power at work in their lives. The picture to the bottom was of our end of year cookout. There 50 of us celebrated what God has done, ate good fun and had a ton of fun playing games in the yard and watching a movie outside on a projector. It was a great way to end the school year.

As many of you know, our staff team participated in a conference called "Together for the Gospel". This was a tremendous gathering of 7000 pastors and ministers of the gospel in Louisville, KY to hear some of the leading evangelical teachers of our day. I wanted to share with you a message that particularly impacted me from Dr. David Platt, entitled: "An Unadjusted Gospel in an Unreached World: Connecting Gospel Theology with Urgent Missiology" . If you have time, it is worth a listen!

Summer is Fast Approaching!

Though we are still very disappointed that we will not be leading a team of students to Johannesburg, South Africa this summer, we are looking forward to spending another summer in Myrtle Beach with our Summer Beach Project. While many students are pursuing internships, jobs and summer school; a group of over one hundred students from all over North Carolina will descend upon Myrtle Beach to do one thing: grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We have the privilege of being a part of this! At the conclusion of the 2009 spring, there were only three girls who were going to attend the Summer Beach Project from UNCC. This summer, there will be two dozen students from UNCC pursuing God. During our time at the SBP, we will be leading and teaching one of our training packets: Biblical Stewardship, giving a seminar on Godly relationships with the opposite sex leading the student team leaders and investing in the students from UNCC! What a summer we have ahead of us!

Prayer Requests:

-Pray for the students from UNCC who will be attending the SBP that they may grow deeply in their relationships with God.
-Pray for us as we lead and help shepherd the student leaders on the project.
-Pray for us as we teach important Biblical principles

Cross Cultural Project Update

Friends, thank you for praying for our retreat two weeks ago. I wanted to give you an update on everything. Amy & I unfortunately have some disappointing news: _we will NOT be leading the Cross Cultural Project to South Africa this summer_. During the course of the recent retreat, three of our seven students decided to not to go this summer. As a result of that, it's not going to be financially possible to take Amy & I, in addition to the other CCP Leader, Bill Moore. The remaining four students would have had to raise over $10,000 each to cover our costs, which would not be possible. The good news is that there are still four students who are committed to going and making disciples in Johannesburg, RSA this summer. We are confident that God is going to do great things through this small team. We are very disappointed in not being able to be with the team that we have invested so much in this summer. We are hopeful that we might be able to lead the 2011 CCP, but we know and trust that God holds all things together for us & in His timing.

So what does that leave for us this summer? Where God shuts one door, He opens another. Because our summer is suddenly freed up Amy & I will be able to be apart of the Summer Beach Project in Myrtle Beach, SC once again. We will be spending 2-3 weeks helping to lead project, teaching training packets and sharing our faith on the beach. Between Amy & I, we have combined to spend all or parts of 12 summers at the Summer Beach Project. It is a place that God has done tremendous things in our lives and in so many others' lives time and time again. We are looking forward to being a part of God's great work.

We would ask that you pray for us in the upcoming days. We have not had the chance to notify the remaining CCP participants that we will not be going with them this summer. Those will be difficult conversations as our team has grown close over these last 3.5 months in preparation. Pray for us as well, there is still a large part of us that longs to be in South Africa leading the team. Pray for contentment, trust and faith that God has us in the exact place that we need to be. Pray for the CCP team as if we still going. They need your prayers.

It is amazing to think that we are already past the halfway point in the spring semester of 2010! Each year goes by a little faster than the one before. This year at UNCC, God has worked in mighty ways. Many men and women are coming to faith in Jesus Christ and that is a testament to the labor of the staff at UNCC, your faithful support and prayers and most importantly the work of the Holy Spirit in people's hearts. Prayer Requests

This season is one of the busiest seasons of the year. There is a ton of work to finish the 2nd half of the semester strong and prepare for the summer projects. We would greatly appreciate your partnership with us by praying for a couple of key things:

The CCP team - pray for many logistics to be worked out, support raising for the students and for God to be uniting us as a team.
Summer Beach Project recruitment - this year there will be over 10x as many students participating in the SBP from UNCC as last year. Pray that students would make godly decisions with how to spend their summers.
Our personal support - we are currently in need of just over $700/month or $8500/year to be at 100%. Pray for God's provision over our financial needs (Psalm 24:1)..

UNCC Student Testimony

Friends,  I thought that this was a testimony worth sharing.  I just wanted to share another encouraging story with you about a guy named Chris James, who everyone affectionately refers to as "Biggie." Chris is a sophomore in Kappa Alpha fraternity, a transfer from the University of Richmond where he had a full ride to play football. Chris graduated from Charlotte Christian High School.  Recently Chris made a decision to follow Jesus. I have attached a brief version of his testimony. Please be praying for Chris as our UNCC staff try to begin leading him and helping him walk with God. Chris has been going into the freshman dorms and sharing his testimony with students. It is very encouraging and I am very thankful for what God is doing!

"On Monday February 9 2010, I can officially and with a big smile on my face tell the world that I became a Christian. My journey to this change in my life was not an easy road, and it took many hardships in order for me to finally open my eyes and see the truth. The lord lead me to begin my college career at the University of Richmond, where I played football and ended up winning a national championship, but that didn't end up working out so he lead me to UNCC, where I thought the key to happiness was the fraternity life. But the life that I went down lead to nothing but heavy drinking and drug use. This lifestyle broke me down inside and i found myself staring at myself in the mirror looking at a soul that had no purpose. I kept wondering why I was so depressed because i had everything in this world that one could want. I had plenty of friends, a loving family, and been blessed athletically, but with all of those things I was still so empty inside. But by the grace of God he revealed himself to me and I accepted Jesus as my personal lord and savior. Big thanks to the cuties at Campus Outreach for helping me grow in my faith and help guide me through this transition phase in my life, and helping me to find Gods purpose in my life."

As many of you know, I was in Johannesburg from February 6-12 helping to setup up missions trip this summer. We got a ton accomplished and God was gracious to us. Some of the things we were able to do were: sign a contract on a guest house, meet local leaders at the campus we will be ministering to, meet a couple different pastors of churches we could partner with for mercy ministry, tour the city and a local township, partner with the Campus Outreach Johannesburg staff team, find some great local places to eat, get acquainted with driving on the left side of the road and more! Cross Cultural Project 2010 - South Africa!

T his coming summer... We will be leading a team of seven students to Johannesburg South Africa for six weeks!

Every year, a select group of students from our campuses are challenged to participate in a missions trip to Johannesburg, South Africa. This trip is called the “Cross Cultural Project” or the CCP. This year, we have the privilege of leading this team with Campus Outreach staff member, Bill Moore. Above is a picture of the staff and students that will be participating in the CCP this coming summer from our first team retreat in Matthews, NC on January 24th. From June 24th to August 10th we will in Africa sharing the gospel with South Africans. We are really excited about this opportunity! While we are in South Africa, we will be partnering with Campus Outreach Johannesburg to minister to university students on the campus of the University of Johannesburg at Bunting.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

1. We will lead a team to minister to college students at the University of Johannesburg at Bunting

2. The goal for our team this summer is to build relationships with these students in order to share the gospel and train them as disciples of Christ.

3. In addition to ministering on the campus throughout the week, we will be teaching a training program throughout the summer to equip the CCP participants as a lifelong laborers and leaders for God’s kingdom.

4. Our summer will also include a week-long mercy mission either in Johannesburg or in a rural village of South Africa serving a community in need.

WHY ARE WE GOING?

1. To be exposed to ministry in a country going through massive cultural changes, and to see how the gospel has the power to bring about healing and hope.

2. To be grow more in my relationship with Christ that I may know Him and make Him known.

3. To mature in my spiritual life and my character as I relate to the global cause of Christ.

4. To provide encouragement to South African Christians and those who minister with them

5. To establish disciples in South Africa who will spread the glory of God for years to come.

This is a special opportunity for both students from Campus Outreach Charlotte and for us. What an honor it will be to labor alongside brothers and sisters from another campus, culture and continent for the sake of making Jesus Christ known! This summer, the nations will be gathering in Johannesburg for the 2010 World Cup, we will literally be seeking to make disciples of ALL NATIONS (Matthew 28:19-20).

What do we need? Prayer, prayer and more prayer! Here are some things to be lifting up for us before we leave:

1. That Jesus would be seen to be glorious through our planning and preparation.

2. For our leadership of the students and the project to be full of wisdom, discernment and to be Christ-centered.

3. For our students who are responsible to raise $6500 each.

We are excited and humbled at the opportunity God has laid at our feet. Join with us in this great mission, we need you!

Paradox Conference Update!

"So I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned, in awe of the one who gave it all. I'll stand, my soul Lord to you surrendered... all I am is yours."

The words above were the cry of the 500 students in Washington DC from Dec 29 to Jan 2. During this conference, God showed up in some amazing ways and Amy & I were privileged to be a part of God's work in the hearts of many, many men and women. Six different students from Charlotte made professions of faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior! On the evening of January 1st, one of the speakers (Andy Lewis, pastor of Mitchell Road Pres in Greenville, SC) made a particularly strong call to everyone in the room to stop viewing their relationship with Christ as a on-again, off-again dating relationship and instead commit to following him as in a marital relationship. It was after this talk that four girls from UNCC gave their lives to Christ in the span of one hour! All 34 students from UNCC were significantly impacted by the preaching of God's Word and corporate worship. From exploring the monuments, visiting museums, staying 3 blocks from the White House, staying up late having spiritual conversations, worshipping with 500+ people, having a crazy dance party to bring in the new year and an awesome concert put on by a Christian hip-hop artist, JR, this conference was amazing!! It's hard to put into words all that God was doing at this conference, so below are some videos of students who were at the conference (I'll let them tell the story)! I would encourage you to take a minute to watch at least one of them. These students' testimonies are direct answers to your prayers!

Please pray that the seeds that have been sown into the hearts of these students would fall on to good soil (Matthew 13). The first day of classes in Monday!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! Amy & I both hope that your 2009 Christmas was blessed!! It has been a treat to be able to see many of you over the Holidays. We are always reminded of how fortunate we are during this season when we are able to visit with you all!

We just wanted to send you a quick reminder that tomorrow we leave for Washington DC and the Paradox 2009 New Year's Conference. (Above is a picture of our staff members from our Charlotte, Lynchburg and Greenville regions that have been planning this conference at a Christmas Party that we had in Lynchburg, VA). We will leave bright and early tomorrow morning and make the seven hour drive to our Nation's Capitol. There is much to be excited for and much to be in prayer for. Would you take some time specifically to pray for this conference and the 500+ students attending (including the 34 students from our campus, UNCC)? Despite all of the planning and preparing that our team has done in the past four months, it is all in vain without God's power (Psalm 127:1). Pray for students who do not know Jesus Christ, to come to know Him and for students who are believers to become laborers (Matthew 9:38). Also, please pray for our health: Amy specifically has not been feeling well leading up to the conference. Pray that God would give her the necessary health to be able to minister well these next five days to students.

Paradox 2009

As the Christmas season is upon us, Amy & I wanted to take a minute to wish you a Merry Christmas! This season always reminds us how blessed we are. Thank you for your support of us!

We wanted to give you an update our upcoming New Year's Conference (Dec 29th-Jan 2nd), "Paradox" (www.paradox2009.org). It has been amazing to see the Lord draw people to this conference. There are 34 students coming from UNCC! This is almost 3x as many students as last year. Praise God!! Over the past month, the UNCC staff has been helping students raise money by raking leaves at various people's homes. We were blessed to have raised almost $3000, which is going to be used to help these students pay for the conference! This past Monday, the students and staff gathered together at an informational meeting for the conference. We are so excited at the fruit this semester; this is the most students coming to a conference from UNCC since I have been working with Campus Outreach. God is building His house and growing us! This conference is going to be a tremendous opportunity for the students to hear about the paradox of the gospel! We are so excited to have a pastor from Washington DC, Mark Dever, be our conference speaker. Please pray that God's Spirit would move into the hearts of many, many students. On the Road Again...

Yes, that seems to be our lives this semester: on the road again. Tomorrow kicks off a four week tour of the Southeast for the Fulginitis. We will be out of town every weekend for four straight weeks traveling to Richmond, Chapel Hill, Charleston and Boone! This weekend we will be heading to Richmond, VA for a "Heart to Heart" Marriage Retreat that the Barnabus Center puts on. We are really excited to be able to invest in our marriage so early on. It will be a lot of traveling coming up, but much of it will be spent with friends and family. Pray for our retreat this weekend and safe travels coming up!

One of the major events of our ministry at Campus Outreach is our New Year’s Conference in Washington DC from Dec 29th – Jan 2nd. One of the major barriers for students to attending this conference is money. It costs $240 per student and another $80 to ride the bus up to DC. That is a lot of money for college students. In an effort to help the financial burden of this conference the UNCC staff are trying to help students raise money for this conference. The staff and students will be raking leaves for people and families who want their yards looking nice for Thanksgiving. If anyone from the Charlotte area wants to help a student get to this conference and have their yard looking good for Thanksgiving guests, let me know! We would love to come rake your leaves. We are planning to rake on November 21st. Would you considering praying specifically that God helps these students who desire to grow spiritually get to the New Years Conference in Washington DC despite how much money it costs them?

While Amy & I will be at a marriage retreat in Richmond, the guys at UNCC are going to be up in the mountains having a "Men's Weekend". The guys are planning all kinds of manly events and challenges that range from catching fish with their bare hands to wrestling in fire circles to sleepings outside of the cabin they are renting. I am really excited that some of the guys that I've been leading in a bible study have decided to go on this. It will be a great weekend for community building and Christian fellowship. Please pray for the 20 men going on the Men's Weekend tomorrow. Pray that God would give them godly fellowship with one another.

Hello from the Fulginitis! We hope that everyone is preparing for a fun Halloween this coming Saturday. This will be the first year that we will get to hand out candy to the trick or treaters in our neighborhood! Should be a lot of fun. This has been an interesting last couple of weeks at our house. We've had our hot water, dryer and heating/AC all break/stop working in the span of a week. It was certainly frustrating to have to take cold showers for a few days, but fortunately everything is fixed. Oh the joys of homeownership...

Ministry is going well! Recruitment for our the New Year's Conference is in full force. Please join with us in praying for many students to attend this year from UNCC. We would be thrilled if God brought 30 students to this conference. The Bible Study for guys on the baseball team that I am leading is going really well. This week we talked about the Lordship of Christ in our lives and what that means. Pray that the seeds that are sown in these men's hearts are falling onto good soil! I would love to see all four men in my Bible Study takes steps of faith and attend the New Year's Conference.

The month of November is already looking like a crazy month! In a couple of weeks all of the married couples on our staff team will be traveling to Richmond, VA for a "Heart to Heart" marriage conference put on by the Barnabus Center. We are really privileged to work for a ministry that values the health of its married couples. This will be a great chance for us to invest in our lives and our marriage, when so much of ministry is investing into the lives of others. Rocktober!

Tuesday night was my first Bible study with some guys (mostly from the baseball team). Together we studied, "What is the Gospel?" We looked at a lot of difference aspects including how to received the gospel, reconciliation, who is the gospel for and what are some of the benefits of the gospel? I would ask you to pray for two things for these four guys: 1) that they would have an increased hunger & desire to know God and follow Him and 2) that God would bring them to our New Year's Conference. This Friday we have having a big Fall festival type party called, Rocktober. This is going to be a great opportunity to get relational time with many of the students that have been coming around to Campus Outreach at UNCC. We are going to be having a pie eating, bobbing for apples, pumpkin carving, dance party, corn hole, pie throwing, and a Rock Band Competition! Should be a ton of fun!

"Halftime"

Each semester, the staff of Campus Outreach Charlotte are required to take a "halftime" from work and ministry. This is an opportunity to step away from the campus to rest/recharge, evaluate the first half of the semester and to plan for the second half of the semester. The nature of college ministry is such a grind that halftimes are really necessary. This semester is the first halftime that Amy & I will get to take together. We are excited to be able to use a friend's condo from our church in Hilton Head, SC. We feel very blessed to work for a ministry that requires us to do something like this and to have friends who graciously allow us to use beach houses! Please pray that this would be a restful time for us and that we would equipped and ready for the second half of the fall semester.

During our time at Hilton Head, we will be taking some extended time to pray for our lives, UNCC, ministry, etc. but we also are going to spend time praying for our friends, family and supporters. October Update

God has been moving in some exciting ways in these past couple of weeks and I wanted to rejoice in them with you. None of the ways that God is moving is possible without your prayers, encouragement and support of Amy & I.

1. Beach Getaway was a great time for building community for students from UNCC. Amy & I were not able to make it though, Amy was sick the entire week before and we thought it best to rest and recover. But there were about 70 students in total who had a blast and heard the gospel!

2. I was able to speak at UNC-Greensboro's weekly gathering, called "8:05". I spoke to about 130 students on what is the treasure of their lives and then challenged them to make Jesus their treasures. Here is the link for a video that I played that illustrated the challenge that I gave to the students:
During our time in Greensboro Amy was able to connect with about ten girls that she had been investing in during her time at Elon (see attached pictures of girls that Amy discipled at Elon). It is amazing to see how God works in the lives of people even when aren't the ones investing anymore, it's a reminder that God is committed to what He has started.

3. I have started a bible study with four men, three of which play on the baseball team. This is really exciting for me personally as I have a desire to reach the baseball team since so much of my life was spent playing growing up. Pray that these men have an increased desire for the Word of God and follow Jesus.

4. Last week, UNCC had our weekly gathering, called the "U". Honestly, it was the best "U" that we have had in the two school years that I have been at UNCC. God just seems to continue to bring more men and women every week to hear His Word. Last night, there was about 70 students who heard a call from one of our staff to "drop their nets and follow Jesus" (Matt 4).

There really is so much to share. I hope to be able to get together with each of you to be able to personally share more stories about God's faithfulness to His people and to His glory on our campuses here in NC. Thank you for your prayers!
